Mad Men Party: Food

I made a bunch of 1960's foods for the Mad Men party that I found online or in old cook books.

Deviled Eggs- Better Homes and Gardens Salad Book (1958)

6 hard-cooked eggs, halved lengthwise
¼ cup mayonnaise
¼ tsp salt
dash pepper
2 tsp prepared mustard
1 tablespoon minced onion
1 tbsp finely chopped celery (optional)

Remove egg yolks. Mash, and combine with remaining ingredients. Refill egg whites using pastry tube if desired. Chill. Trip tops with pimento diamonds, sliced olives, or paprika.

Ambrosia Salad

2 cans of Regular Fruit Cocktail
2 cans of Tropical Fruit Cocktail
2 cans of cut up Pineapple
4 cans of mandarin oranges
1 bag of white miniature marshmallows
1 large container of sour cream
1 little jar of maraschino cherries (I cut them in half)
1 cup of shredded coconut (sweetened if desired)

Drain the juice from the fruit, while reserving the liquid from whichever fruit you like best. Use some of that juice to thin the sour cream if necessary. Mix all together then chill. Decorate with cherries, mandarin oranges, and pineapple slices.

Stuffed Celery

Deviled Biscuits- Better Homes and Gardens Snacks and Refreshments

1 package of refrigerated biscuits
¼ cup butter or margarine
4 ½ oz can deviled ham
¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese

Snip biscuits in quarters. Arrange in 2 8-inch round baking dishes. Heat together butter and deviled ham, stirring till blended. Pour ham mixture over biscuit pieces, being sure to coat them all. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. Bake in hot oven (400 degrees) about 15 minutes or till golden. Serve hot as a snack or as hot bread with a salad supper. Makes 40.
